Only with your support can we save Sibley Prairie. Every dollar makes a difference—
please give today to help protect this irreplaceable treasure.

Why Sibley Prairie Must Be Saved

Sibley Prairie is not just land—it is one of Michigan’s most irreplaceable natural treasures. Located in Brownstown Township, Wayne County, it is the largest and highest-quality lakeplain prairie remaining in the entire state. Prairies like this once covered vast areas, but today almost all are gone. Sibley Prairie is the last of its kind.

Recently, 440 acres—the very heart of the Sibley Prairie—were put up for auction. Had the sale gone through, this globally rare ecosystem would have been lost forever to development. In a dramatic turn, Fritz Enterprises Inc. has granted the Michigan Land Conservancy an option to purchase the land—but only if we can raise $6 million by the end of 2026.

Fortunately, several organizations have banded together to Save Sibley Prairie. Read more about the members of the coalition here.

This is our one chance. If we succeed, Sibley Prairie will be permanently protected. If we fail, bulldozers will erase this rare landscape forever.

Sibley Prairie is home to a stunning diversity of life: wildflowers and grasses found almost nowhere else, migratory birds that depend on its open grasslands, and threatened and endangered species clinging to survival.

Beyond its ecological value, it offers future generations the chance to experience a wild prairie in the heart of Michigan’s most urban county—a place where nature and people can thrive side by side.

But the clock is ticking. Protecting Sibley Prairie requires all of us. Every donation, large or small, brings us closer to saving this priceless piece of Michigan’s natural heritage. Please give today to help save Sibley Prairie before it’s too late.

Together, we can ensure that this extraordinary prairie remains wild, beautiful, and alive—forever.
